At Immanuel we think that Baptism is a big deal! We believe that Jesus made this a top priority for the church. “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19. So, that’s exactly what we’ve been doing! If you or a member of your family has not been baptized, consider the following….
- Baptism is about what GOD is doing to us (not something we do for Him.)
- You don’t need to be baptized
- It is a sacrament. That is, a sacred/holy thing that God does.
“Or don’t you know that all of us, who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life…” Romans 6:2-4
1. The MODE doesn’t matter. It’s about WATERand the WORD
The word “baptize” means sprinkle, pour, immerse, all are valid
“Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to make her holy, cleaning her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to Himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5: 26-27
2. It’s a free gift, commanded for God’s “children” of ALL AGES
We baptize from infants to elderly.
“Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all whom the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38-39
3. It’s a PHYSICAL SIGN of our entrance into God’s Family and of His love.
Are you ever in doubt of God’s love? Remember your baptism! You are part of His family!
