For Unto Us

“For unto us a child is given, unto us, a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Though Isaiah foretold that the Savior of the world would be born literally 700 plus years in the future, though people had longed for this Gift from God since the time of Adam and Eve, though the people of God longed for deliverance when God would step into history, it happened in a very unobtrusive way.  There wasn’t any fanfare. A young wife, a father, taking refuge for the birth in a lowly stable…and it was there that the Son of God was born  And in that instant with His first muffled cry, with His first breath of air, everything changed.  Immanuel!  God with us! The Savior of the world coming into the flesh, true God and yet true man, born of a virgin, born for one purpose, to bear the sins of all people for all time upon Himself to redeem all people.

All of us have experienced pivotal moments in our lives.  And there have been undoubtedly many pivotal moments in the history of the world, but there has been none greater than these two: the moment that the Savior was born and the moment He pronounced, “It is finished.”  Everything changed for everyone in those moments.

May God bless your celebration this Christmas!
