We believe that:

  • Children have been created by God to be special and unique in their own way.
  • Growing children follow a basic sequence of development and mature at different rates.
  • All children deserve respect and nurturing as they grow spiritually, socially, intellectually, emotionally and physically.

FAQs

(Ask the Director)

Q: What is your curriculum designed to do?

A: Our curriculum has been taken from several sources one of which is Creative Curriculum.  It is designed to prepare children for Kindergarten.  More importantly itis designed to teach a child to love to learn and to carry this love into their next learning experience.

Q: What will my child do each day?

A: We believe in the development of the whole child. Each day a child enjoys both small and large group activities with individual attention given during these times.  Both child directed and teacher directed time takes place daily.  All children are introduced to or reinforced in the areas of colors, shapes, letters, numbers, printing,  Fun themes teach your child about the world around them .  Gym and playground become the “Can we go now?” time.  Additionally, there is calendar, music and story time daily.

Q: What if my child struggles?

A: Each child moves at their own pace.  If a child seems to be struggling, teachers and parents can meet to come up with a plan.  Teachers give suggestions for at home fun activities.  Teachers will often spend part of Center Time helping a child who is challenged in their learning.

Q: Both of us are working, how will we receive communication?

A: Weekly newsletters are sent home and will be displayed on the website.  Email messages and often text messages are sent to inform and remind parents.  The online application, Remind, is used on a regular basis. Parents must sign up to receive that.  You can find it through your device's app search. Phone conversations frequently take place.  Parent Conferences are held twice a year to help parents to understand how their child is progressing and what comes next in their learning process.

Q: How can I help prepare my child get ready for preschool and kindergarten?

A: There are many ways to help your child.  Click here for a brochure on Preparing your child for Preschool & Kindergarten.

Q: Are you a licensed preschool?

A: Yes we are licensed by the State of Michigan and recognized through the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

Immanuel Lutheran Preschool provides a high quality curriculum and a safe, caring environment for all of the children who are part of our school family. This is better magnified by the presence of loving, caring, experienced and credentialed staff members to facilitate the learning process of children.

Our staff members are composed of four certified teachers with Masters or Bachelors in Education and four certified assistant teachers with Child Development Associates. Our Director is also one of the teachers. We are supported by the staff of the church. Before they are admitted to work in our facility, we have thoroughly checked on their:

  • Personal background
  • Criminal record
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Attitudes towards work and the working situation we have here

Each staff member is trained in CPR (yearly), first aid (bi-annually), child development (ongoing), training to reduce the risk of child sexual abuse (yearly). They also must attend a minimum of 16 hours of training annually.

Staff meetings are held weekly to address curriculum planning and challenges facing individual children.
