Is Summer Coming?

Solomon, the author of Ecclesiastes, said; “Seasons come and seasons go.” This year as we look to summer, let’s view it as a time of beauty, but also as a time of opportunity? Summer can be a time to reflect, as we listen to the birds sing, but it can also be a time to enjoy our summer outdoor hobbies? It can be a time to go to many outdoor gatherings such as parties, barbecues, and reunions. Whatever the time it is, do you think it can be a time to be a disciple?

Discipleship can be a time for all seasons. Jesus has shown all of us how to disciple as he ministered to the sick, lame, and poor. Jesus disciples us today when we sin. He shows us how to get back on the right track when we repent of our sins.

I love all the seasons, but I must admit I enjoy spring, summer and fall more than winter. But I also know there is a unique beauty in winter of itself. One of the reasons though I enjoy summer is people can do many outdoor activities. Many people can exercise more often with outdoor walks, enjoying the beauty of God’s nature.

As we enjoy the many outdoor activities, try and think about how you can disciple the less fortunate. Think about how you can disciple the sick who can only appreciate God’s nature through a window because they are not able to enjoy the fresh air. Think about how you can disciple the poor because they can’t afford to vacation to beautiful areas of our country. Think about how you can disciple the depressed and the people with anxiety because their fear paralyzes them.

As we are called to disciple, let us remember some of the Scriptures where God has commanded us to do as followers in Christ.

Mark 16:15 says- And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

Acts 1:8 says- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

John 15:16 says- You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

God has given each one of us the gift to bear fruit, so as we can share God’s love to others. There are always people in need; people who need to be discipled.

As a believer and follower of Jesus, don’t ever think you lack the strength to disciple someone. We are called to reach out and share God’s love to the lost. That is our purpose.

It doesn’t matter what season to disciple. Every day of the year is available for to us make a difference in someone’s life. Don’t wait to disciple; do it now!!

As Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 28:19-20-   Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

May God bless you as you disciple people this summer.
