In the blink of an eye...

Psalm 90 is one of the Psalms that has a profound insight into the eternal majesty of God and the reality of our existence….  “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God…So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom… God is eternal, and we are not.” So let us be aware that each day is a gift!

I blinked, and suddenly my children are in college, and then I blinked again and they are both married with children of their own.

I blinked, and one day, I began my ministry at Faith Lutheran Church in Adel, Iowa in 1979.

I blinked again, and I am blessed to serve at Immanuel in 2019

I blinked again, and I participated in the baptism the infant Christian Jones, his confirmation as a young adult, his marriage to Kristi, the baptism of his child, and then his ordination and installation of Christian Jones into his own ministry.

One day I was having dinner in the old St Clair Inn, and I blinked, and a new remodeled St Clair Inn is soon to be completed.

One day long ago the Tigers won the World Series, but I have blinked many times, and they are nowhere close to doing that again!

One day I’m worshiping in the old sanctuary with its pews and wooden ceilings and small micro narthex and the next day I blinked, and we have a remodeled, beautiful, light-filled, spacious sanctuary for God’s people to worship in.

One day its May and still cold and raining and I blinked, and it's August, and the sun is shining, it’s hot, and the St Clair river races are about to happen!

Where does time fly?  And yet, the Psalmist encourages us to “number our days,” that is, to be aware that every single one of them is a gift from God to be cherished.  In each of those days, He loves us with a love that is beyond our understanding and a grace that is found in the person and work of Jesus, our gracious and loving Savior.

And, in a blink of an eye, we will be with Him forever and ever in heaven!
